Racial Death Threats Puts the University of Missouri on Alert

Students at the University of Missouri fear for their safety after death threats through social media. It has been an emotional racial roller coaster at the main campus of the University of Missouri. On “Yik-Yak,” which is a relatively new social media, (very popular among college students) several individuals wrote death threats to minority students. “I’m going to stand my ground tomorrow and shoot every black person I see,” “Well tomorrow mizzou will really make national news,” and “Don’t go to campus tomorrow” were some of the statements found on “Yik-Yak” that sparked major fear in students from the University of Missouri; because “Yik-Yak” is completely anonymous individuals hide under the platform the medium provides and express whatever they want.

School officials took every threat very seriously and two campus buildings were put on lockdown including the Black Culture Center. Reports say members of the KKK were on-site circulating and students were very vocal about not feeling safe in their college campus. Several hours later official gave “the all clear” confirming there was no immediate threat. Racial tensions at the University of Missouri have reached a boiling point. Students went on a hunger strike protesting against the way the school has handled racial situations on campus and football players also protested by not playing; both groups demanded the president of the University of Missouri to resign.

Moreover, Tim Wolfe, president of the University of Missouri resigned from his position over the handling of what students call institutional racism on campus. Wolfe stated the motivation for making such decision comes from love and takes full responsibility for the university’s horrible handling of intense racial incidents in the past and hopes that his resignation starts the healing of the university and the community.

Bill Murray Hosts Netflix Holiday Special ‘A Very Murray Christmas’

A Very Murray Christmas: Paul Shaffer, George Clooney, Bill Murray, Miley Cyrus

Once upon a time, on Christmas Eve, your entire family would gather around the television to watch Andy Williams sing “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” with a chorus of carol singers. Maybe Snoopy was more your style, so you spent the holiday with the Peanuts. Or perhaps Rankin/Bass’ The Year Without a Santa Claus was your household favorite. But when was the last time you can remember watching a new holiday program.

They sure don’t make ‘em like they used to. Gone are the classic Christmas specials of yesteryear. Popular in the 60s, 70s, and 80s were celebrity variety shows filled with Christmas carols, themed skits, and various talent acts. Multitalented stars like Judy Garland, the Osmonds, Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and Julie Andrews hosted the shows that marked this important time of the year. But this holiday season we are finally being promised A Very Murray Christmas.

Actor and former SNL alum Bill Murray will be hosting his own star-studded Christmas special on Netflix. Written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker Sophia Coppola, it’s set to be released on December 4th. In the synopsis released by Netflix, it states that, “A Very Murray Christmas opens with Murray preparing to host a live, international holiday broadcast. After a blizzard shuts down the production, he makes the best of the situation by singing and celebrating with friends, hotel employees and anyone else who drops by.”

Murray, who is already a holiday staple of sorts with his 1988 film Scrooged, has a similar charm to Dean Martin with his charismatic wit and laid-back sense of humor. Sure to be a mix of new and old, Murray is shown crooning “Jingle Bells” while accompanied by former Late Night star Paul Shaffer and belting a “Sleigh Ride” with modern pop star Miley Cyrus. Also making appearances are George Clooney, Amy Poehler, Michael Cera, Jason Schwartzman, and Maya Rudolph.

Off screen actress Jennifer Lawrence (America’s sweetheart) has been making news when hacked emails about a movie she was in called American Hustle revealed that she was payed less than all her male costars; the movie came out in 2013, but the emails have been hacked recently. Lawrence male costars in American Hustle include Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner. Jennifer said “If I am honest with myself I fallen into a trap women face not wanting to be “difficult” or “spoiled” while men don’t care.” Lawrence male costars fully support Lawrence activist actions of income-gender inequality issues that are happening in Hollywood.

Lawrence officially wrapped her Hunger Games movie trilogy that had been her life for the past couple of years and ended a five year relationship with her boyfriend at the same time she wrapped the trilogy; all happening when she was twenty-four. The actress says 24 was a year of questioning who she was, how she was going to live without these movies and without this boyfriend that have been a part of her life for such a significant amount of time. Now this 25 year old actress is transitioning from questioning her essence to looking forward with her acting career and her income-gender inequality advocacy.

Does Drinking From An Early Stage In Life Lead To Depression Later On? Here We Give You The Facts!

By now it is already been proven that discrimination is lead factor for young kids to resort to underage drinking, illegal drugs and sometimes even result in violence, when they can’t control themselves. Discrimination could really take a toll on them in a hard way that we might not know, it also has been shown that it increase the chance for them to smoke cigarettes, and compared to all the other effects, this one might not be so bad, but still a kid going to high school, should need to smoke to relieve their problems. But this problem has been increasing in the last few years according to the article, so it’s not going away any time soon.

The people who did these studies came to the conclusion that those teenager who have a closer relationship with their parents, tend to not be so needy or addicted in some cases to alcohol or drug use. Parents have to be involve in their kid’s live, see how they are feeling, they might not even know that their depression from any problems at home, might be coming back to them, making them feel down and in need of a quick fix.

One tip that they suggest to the community besides parents being more involved, is to help the kids look for peer-counseling, sometimes listening to someone else’s advice beside your parent’s stick better to teenagers. 10 Packing Tips From the Travel Experts

Get a handle on things. Purchase an easy-to-carry bag that is light and roomy enough to throw your purse in. Keep your electronics accessible on top so that you don’t have an hassle getting them from the bottom.

Airplanes are a beauty disaster, so come prepared. You are just sitting in the cold air for long periods of time. A hydrating facial mist will rejuvenate your glum skin. Oil blotting papers weigh practically nothing and are a godsend when you need them.

Think about packing your own drinks and snacks. TSA will confiscate your water, but keeping an empty on you for fill-ups post-security is a real lifesaver. Ask the flight attendant to top it off (since those in-flight water cups are built for a 2-year-old’s thirst) or do it in the terminal beforehand. Eating only candy on flights can really ruin the day, making you feel lethargic and exhausted when you reach your destination. Try packing trail mix or maybe even a healthy sandwich.

Make sure you have your phone synced and ready. Podcasts can be so necessary when you’re trying to kill time, and having an up-to-date music list is key to a smooth flight. Other must haves are e-books, (download them at home first), and Wallet (a great way to keep your boarding passes tidy in a no-paper, no-losing, no-mess way). Also, the last thing you want is your phone—aka lifeline from boredom—to die mid-flight. Do yourself a favor and invest in a portable charger or external battery.

Adjust your makeup routine. Eleven hours of wearing makeup while you’re cramped in economy won’t do your look or skin any favors, so take a quick trip to the bathroom on your way to baggage claim and do you primping there. A sheer, matte powder, will help battle oil and add a fresh finish.

And, when all else fails: Nyquil and your favorite book!

Hopefully these tips work and help some people through their next long flight.

Cold weather is headed to Florida during El Nino year

Florida has broken multiple heat records across the state between the months of October and November. Many days in Central Florida have seen the upper 80s and low 90s; but that could be about to end as meteorologists predict some much colder temperatures in the forecast.

El Nino is the band of warm ocean water that periodically develops in part of the Pacific Ocean. This brings colder, wetter winters to the southeast United States, with drier conditions up north.

This year’s El Nino is one of the strongest on record, meaning it could get considerably chilly in Florida.

The last time El Nino was this warm, in 1998, several tornadoes swept through Melbourne killing dozens of people, and injuring more than a hundred more.

The season involves a jet stream stretching across North America that is expected to bring strong storms to the southeast United States.

Craig Fugate with the Federal Emergency Management Agency told the Associated Press severe storms typically pass through at the beginning of December until March. The storm activity typically happens during the overnight hours.

Like always, the agency recommends that all Floridians be prepared with the proper emergency response kits, weather radios and an evacuation plan on hand – flash flooding and tornadoes can also become a major issue.

This week, temperatures are expected to be in the upper 60s through the Orlando metro area.

In 1998, 42 people died as seven tornadoes came through Melbourne and also injured more than 250 people.

Winter in Florida is typically the driest part of the year, but that is often not the case during an El Nino year.

10 Films That Bombed at the Box Office in 2015

So far in 2015, several films have succeeded at the Box Office, like Jurassic World, the latest installment of the Avengers Saga, and Fast and Furious 7. Even though these were a huge success in the theaters, there are other productions which the audience didn’t approve.

Danny Boyle’s ‘Steve Jobs’, the biopic of Apple’s co-founder, was critically acclaimed and received an outstanding ranking on RottenTomatoes.com, but it didn’t create a connection with the crowds. The film was dropped from most theaters weeks before planned.

‘Jem and the Holograms’ put out a trailer that didn’t cause much awe, and its debut weekend was a disaster.

Critics tore to pieces the comedy ‘Rock the Kasbah’ and the movie-goers had nothing but apathy towards the film. This is one of Bill Murray’s least successful films.

Vin Diesel’s ‘The Last Witch Hunter’ will “bore and/or confuse all but the least demanding action-fantasy fans.” according to Rotten Tomatoes.

The super production ‘Pan’ was an epic failure, regardless of Hugh Jackman and Rooney Mara’s performances.

Critics’ response to Guillermo Del Toro’s horror flick ‘Crimson Peak’ was not matched by its report at the box office. (The film has a 70% rating on RT).

The animated film ‘Shaun the Sheep’ had all the right ingredients to be a hit, except for the ticket sales.

‘The Walk’, by Robert Zemeckis and actor Joseph Gordon Levitt, despite of being acclaimed by the film critics it didn’t skyrocket in box office success.

Who asked for a sequel to ‘Hot Tub Machine’?

And last but not least, Zac Efron’s DJ story ‘We Are Your Friends’ wasn’t just 2015’s worst movie premiere: it was the third worst movie debut in history.
