This is an exciting change to learn more about one of the most interesting emerging film industries in Latin America. Costa Rican films are often character studies, focusing on aesthetics and narrative and less on political issues. Our class will place a spotlight on Costa Rican auteur directors such as Paz Fábrega and Isthar Yasin Gutierrez. By the end of the semester students will be expected to produce a short film (2-3 minutes) filmed on location during their time in Costa Rica. The goal would be to imitate a particular film style or movement from an era of motion picture history referenced in the class.
