Uber, A college students Best Friend and Why.

By Shawn Presley

By now, the App Uber is by far a household name and for good reason; the App is the epitome of communication and innovation in the 21st century and in my opinion the most beneficial App since Facebook. The high demand of transportation in the city of Orlando has drastically increased in the last 5 to 10 years. The increase presence of cars on the road have not gone unnoticed by city officials, major projects such as the Interstate-4 transformation and other smaller road projects are combating the cities congestion, however it is not enough.

Uber is the alternative to decrease traffic while simultaneously creating jobs. Yes the App acts as a mediator between those who need and ride and those that give rides. To drive for Uber is easy and hassle free, simply upload pictures of your Title, Insurance, and Drivers license and in a short time Uber will contact you with a link to download the Partner App (Uber App for Drivers) and just like that you can begin driving. Once on the road the App for drivers bings when a rider in your location needs a ride, the driver has 30 seconds to either accept or ignore the request in which case it will transfer to the next driver. Compensation on rides depends on the distance and time of the ride and weather or not there is a Surge (A time when normal rates are multiplied due to an increased in ride requests). Uber compensates drivers on tolls as well and only takes 20% of the total fare.

Now whenever there is innovation, there will always be opposition, the App is so effective the standard Taxi company in the city, in this case MERES company, has seen drastic decrease in business. As a response the taxi company has brokered a deal with city officials that Uber drivers are not allowed near the airport and if caught will suffer heavy fines and penalties. As an alternative I urge normal taxi drivers to transfer their skills and experience to Uber and begin making the money they deserve. Without a doubt Uber is here to stay and in my opinion the hybrid of Innovation, communication, and capitalism. I’m eager to see how the App will evolve and assimilate into the life of citizens across the country.

Student left stranded after speaking Arabic on a flight; Is Islamophobia real?

A college student was removed from a flight after speaking Arabic on a flight. He was speaking to his uncle about an event he attended and how excited he was attending the event when the lady in front of him started to alert the crew members that he was making threating comments. That’s when a Southwest employee escorted the passenger out and the FBI started to take over and question him. 8 hours later he was allowed to leave with a refund and booked another flight back home via delta.

This is the problem in America we our suffering from what a couple of people have called Islamophobia. Every time we here someone from Islam speak Arabic we automatically go into defense mode and start thinking the absolute worst. When in reality its not the case we are profiling and acting too racist to these people and its wrong. This has to stop I understand that we do need to be more aware and have better security but to hate these people to the point that they can’t even get on a flight to go home its just morally wrong. This country was founded by immigrants and built by immigrants it was once a country that welcome any race as long as they learned English and did it by the book and to be honest that’s not to much to ask to learn the language of this country its like anybody going to another country. You have to learn the language if you want to be successful and prosper.

Now a days this country is in fear. They let their fear destroy this country and their fear is leading this country into a dark time. A time where I don’t even know what’s going to happen or what to expect but if this racistism keeps going on this country is going to lose more then just people.

Things to Do on Cinco de Mayo in Orlando

Even though Cinco de Mayo is supposed to represent the Mexican Army’s victory over the French at the battle of Puebla in 1862, for some of us it’s also a good reason to wear our sombreros and tip back some Coronitas or margaritas.

Orlando offers us plenty of parties to join this Cinco de Mayo. Here is a short guide to the most popular events taking over the city:

  • Wall St. Plaza’s Cinco de Mayo Dos Block Parties: This event will take place in Downtown Orlando’s Wall St. Plaza. There will be live music, drink special bull riding, piñatas, sombreros, mustaches, mariachi bands and all the tools necessary to party like it’s the last fiesta. The first event is on Saturday April 30th at 8 p.m. The second fiesta is on Thursday May 5th at 5 p.m.
  • Rocco’s Tacos:  With its already fun atmosphere, Rocco’s Tacos will be taking over Cinco de Mayo with its annual block party. One of the best things about this event is that offers admission at no cost to attendees. There will also be drinks specials, DJs, mariachi bands and delicious food all in a family-friendly environment. The event will run from Thursday May 5th at noon until 1 a.m.
  • Bloodhound Brew: This event brings us its annual foam party as well as drink specials, DJs, prizes and a lot of foam. The event starts at on May 5th at 6 p.m. and will run until 2 a.m.

These count as good enough reasons to drink on a weekday, so put on you sombrero and get ready for the fiesta!

Kobe Bryant scores 60 points in his last game of his NBA career.

On Wednesday April 13 Kobe Bryant played his last game on his home court against the Utah Jazz and every minute of this game was worth seeing. Kobe Bryant is only 37 years old and he has been playing basketball for the LA Lakers for 20 years. Every good thing comes to an end so this last game was very emotional for Kobe and his fans. For the whole entire day Snapchat had a filter for Kobe late game that was sponsored by Nike. Everyone was talking about it, we knew the day would come but it arrived so soon. One of the greatest players in NBA has retired. I myself is not a Kobe fan but I will admit that he is a great player not better then Michael Jordan but he comes pretty close. Kobe Bryant has brought the LA Laker 5 championships and they have go to the NBA finals numerous times. During his last game he showed us why he is the best player on the LA Lakers and maybe even in the league. Scoring crucial points at the last minute of the game against the Jazz not to tie the game but just to make it to 60 points and to have the crowd on their feet.

What will Kobe do next? Will he ever make a comeback or has he retired for good? He hasn’t said much about his retirement. Most retired athletes start up new ventures or become sport commentators like Shaq, Magic Johnson and so much more. It might take a while for him to adjust to not having to wake up early, practice, constantly take trips to different states to play games but he will adjust eventually. I wish Kobe nothing but the best and I hope he has a great retirement, I am happy that I will no longer have to worry about the Lakers making it to the finals anytime soon.

Students Can Now Transfer To Any Public School In The State

Big news in the florida school system this week as Governor Scott signs education bill that allows transfers to any school. Thursday was the day when the governor put ink to paper signing the education bill. Scott did not comment after signing the bill but parents and lawmakers said that it gives parents a better opportunity  to pick the school their children school in order for the child to be put in the best situation to succeed.

This bill was long awaited as former Florida Governor Jeb Bush has been pushing for school-choice options for years. The bill won’t be in affect until the 2017-2018 School year starts so there is a year to work out the potential problems.

One problem that could arise is over crowding and that would mean more kids in the classroom and would potentially take away from the students small classroom environment.

Another problem is that students are allowed to transfer and be eligible to play sports immediately which would allow the schools that exceed in for certain sports to be dominant. This would in theory diminish rivalries because there would be one great team in the county and other sub par teams.

Although there are many concerns for this new bill a lot of excitement is being formed for the implementation of this bill. This bill will allow parents and kids to choose a school that fits the student. No one student is the same as another and all students learn differently and exceed in different environments. I think this bill is for the students and will be a great thing for the communities when it is all said and done.

The Best Way To Prevent Blisters

Could it be that we have found a way to escape painful blisters? We have all fallen prey to the horrible scars and pain these little circles have left us with. It is truly possible that there is a cure — tape.

Why do we get blisters to begin with? According to “An Easy Way to Prevent Blisters? Try Tape” an article from the New York Times by Gretchen Reynolds, “Blisters develop when something rubs repeatedly against a patch of skin. The resulting friction causes the top layers of the skin to begin separating from one another, producing a feeling of heat.” Usually this occurs when we are involved in a prolonged period of exercise or even by new shoes.

Since physical activity is pivotal for our well being, it is important to figure out ways to prevent our blisters. Reynolds states, “Dr. Lipman and his colleagues asked all of the runners signed up for the 2014 event if they would wear paper tape on their feet to determine if doing so actually prevented blisters. Almost 130 men and women agreed”. Therefore, wearing paper tape is the perfect way to ensure a continual healthy life and most of all happy feet. The article also started that after careful study scientist determined the tape reduced 40 perfect of blister incidences.

All in all, our physical lifestyle would change entirely for the better if we would use paper tape to prevent blisters. Being prepared with tape can increase our performance and allow us to be active endlessly. Let’s work smarter and not harder by taking protecting our feet from blisters.

What Is The Safest Big City In America?

The credit is given to Compstat, a statistical system for tracking crime, that decreased crime in New York by 75 percent making it the safest big city in America. Compstat is a management system initiated in the New York Police Department that combines state-of-the-art management with crime analysis and geographic information systems technology. The computer statistics are used as a measure to control and prevent crime to improve the quality of life.

Chiefs and lead officers of the NYPD have worked aggressively toward successful crime prevention and holding their unit members accountable. In a recent weekly Compstat meeting, NBC reporters were welcomed to sit in and observe a question-and-answer setup between the bosses and the precinct commanders. Two commanders assigned to the 40th and 43rd precincts in the Bronx were questioned about their work activity or the lack thereof, that opened the door for a surge in robberies and burglaries which the both of them and their units are responsible for. Chief James O’Neill reportedly told NBC that the point of the forum is not to embarrass anyone, it is to ensure their entire operation is efficient and he knows the inspector is capable of and will turn this around. This meeting reflected the efforts of the NYPD with effective utilization of Compstat, to curb crime and take pride in the significant decrease they’ve achieved thus far. In 1993, New York City had 1,947 murders, an equivalence of more than 5 murders a day. Last year, the city had 352 murders. The decrease is nothing short of a huge accomplishment and sense of relief for the city as a whole, its residents, the NYPD, and the local government. Since Compstat’s peak in efficacy, its use has been implemented in other cities like Philadelphia and Los Angeles. As long as the system continues to prove with the results that it did in New York, I hope it is exported in every city to reduce and prevent crime country-wide.

Reviewing the Documentary ‘Amy’s Story’ We Tell You The Facts About Domestic Violence – Click To Find Out!

My reaction to the film is expected from what a normal person would feel when listening to such atrocious story. I felt like I was there with Amy going through what she went through when all of her coworkers and family were telling what happened, especially how the detective was describing everything, she gave a very vivid image of all the incidents.

At the beginning of the documentary I felt intrigued in the story, because I had already read a little background on her story because I like learning about true life stories, what made Amy stay with Vincent after all those signs and things he did to her? But to even understand that I knew I needed to find out how did he first get her attention, because that’s when you know what type of person he is, that’s what made me so angry, because at the beginning everything is very lovey dovey but then his true colors came out as all abusers do with these types of relationships. So this is very intriguing to me, so I wanted to find out more on how persuasive can a person like Vincent really be that it makes the victim be controlled by them.

I was able to identify with Amy, not because I was in an abusive relationship of that extent but recently I was dating someone who constantly made me feel bad about myself whenever I would tell him that I didn’t like how he was treating me or I didn’t like that he would completely disappear on me for like three straight day and then reach out to me again as if nothing happened, so I would ignore him just like he just did to me and he would make me feel horrible for doing that to him that “he doesn’t deserve to be ignored by me” etc. so he would turn things onto me, as if I was the bad person making a big deal about everything until all my friends and family told to get out of that sickening relationship because he was basically blinding me with his words. I didn’t want be alone so it made stay a little longer that I should have, but then I couldn’t take it anymore, broke it off and he didn’t even try to win me back, he was completely fine with us ending things.

Signs That You Are in the Right Relationship

Love is beautiful feeling that we get to experience in different ways for different people. The most striking kind of love is the one we feel for a husband or wife. Although you may not be married, this small guide can still show you the path your relationship is going. If you are single, it can still show you what to look for in you future relationship.

  • Know what the needs of you partner require to be fulfilled and feel loved- This sign is crucial because you have to communicate love in a way that they understand it, not you necessarily. Gary Chapman, the successful author of the book “The 5 Love Languages,” explains how there are five different types of ways in which people like to be expressed love to. These languages are: Physical touch, quality time, words of affirmation, gifts and acts of service. So realizing what your partner needs to feel loved is imperative.
  • You both think of each other before thinking of yourselves individually- This is important because a relationship is made of two people, and both people are equally important. A person looking for a long-term relationship that will turn into marriage needs to find a partner who speaks in terms on “we” and not just “me.”
  • You fight clean- Nothing is more hurtful than being talked down to, dismissed or insulted by the person you love. Fights happen, and they are normal. However, how those fights are handled says a lot about the relationship you’re in. Both parties should be able to stay calm, send a message without hurting the other’s feelings or raising the tone of voice unnecessarily.
  • You both compliment each other- This is self explanatory, but the best compliments come from the people who matter the most.

2016 MTV Movie Awards Breakdown

The 2016 MTV Movie Awards proved that award shows don’t have to be live for things to get weird.  MTV has decided to pre-record the awards to save themselves from any crazy celebrities pulling any funny business (AKA Miley Cyrus.)  Kevin Hart and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson were this year’s hosts and were hilarious as ever.  The highly anticipated movie “Suicide Squad” released it’s third trailer and fans were going crazy.  The movie is set to premiere on August 5th and it features some all-star villains like The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Some major awards of the night were won by The Force Awakens, which won Movie of the Year, Straight Outta Compton, which won Best True Story, and by Leo DiCaprio and Charlize Theron who won Best Male and Female Performance.  Everyone’s favorite Melissa McCarthy won Best Comedic Genius award, and her speech was hilarious yet heartwarming.  She stated, “I may be the first woman to win this award, but I am certainly not the first one to deserve it.  I am only here because Carol Burnett, Jane Curtin, Phyllis Diller, Whoopi Goldberg, Teri Garr, Madeline Kahn, Lucille Ball, Gilda Radner, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Diane Keaton, Tracy Ullman, Bette Midler, Lily Tomlin, and my mom … taught me not to fear being the butt of the joke, taught me not to worry about being likable or perfect, and to lovingly go for the kill.”

Ryan Reynolds took home Best Comedic Performance for Deadpool and used his thank you speech to make every woman in the audience and watching at home jealous.  He said that everything he does is to make her (Blake Lively) laugh.  Ug.

MTV’s most anticipated award is usually Best Kiss, because ever since Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams reenacted their iconic kiss from the Notebook, the audience is always dying to see if anyone can one up them.  Rebel Wilson and Adam Devine took home the award this year for Pitch Perfect, but it wasn’t as impressive as some past years winners.

All in all, everyone who you thought would win did, there weren’t many surprises and we still don’t know how this award show works.  Do people vote?  Is there an Academy like the Oscars?  I guess we’ll never know.
